in the latest afm in the us news bit, there is an off the recod quate from a usmc general saying that in the event of a war in a central asian country (guss – uhm – china) then friendly ports and air bases will suffer saturation missile attacks and make them useless so the navy and normall af planes won’t be able to get in close and attack. basically this usmc general was advocating more bombers.
personaly i don’t think bombers could do anything – i mena the b1 and b52 would be no good (get shoot down) and with only (how many 15-20) b2 ‘s avaliable you can’t do much. planes like f-15e, gr4 and min’s lovely 🙂 f-111 could prehaps do it (so why have the us scrapped the long range planes – no more long range f-14, a-12, etc – yes i know they screwed these projects up but why are the new stuff (super hornet, f22, jsf) not going to be long range ?
your thoughts on this issue please 🙂
