A couple of years ago I was reading airforces monthly or flypast, there was an article about museums in the Bosnia, Croatia area that looked very interesting. I am now working in the Bosnia area in the Canadian AOR (area of responsibility) and am wondering where they might be because I’m looking for a place to visit during my R & R. Any help would be great

i went there about 5 to 7 years ao – there is little civil stuff – just a test concord. you walk through it , see loads of test gear and there are 4 test seats on one side and then you walk out the back door.
IIRC there is a carreir deck mock up but i was too young to reember much else 🙁

RE: Aircraft Museums
I’ve been to the Yorkshire Air Museum on numerous occasions, I’ve been to Duxford once… courtesy of my University course :-)! Then there’s the Fantasy of Flight museum near Kissimee, Florida, and finally a military museum in the centre of Warsaw. I think that’s it!

RE: Aircraft Museums
The only aviation museum i have visited in Europe is at Bodo in Northern Norway. It was pretty good. Sorry to be a little out of the topic. 🙂

I’ve been to the Southampton Hall Of Aviation.I didn’t find it that good because it was mainly all the classic aircraft.

If any of you are ever visiting the U.S., there are a few. The Museaum of Flight at Boeing Field in Seattle is a must see. Also the Air and Space Smithsonian in Washington D.C. I’ve been to a few smaller profile ones as well, like the March AFB field museum, which is all military. Also, a few civil ones.

Regrettably,I’ve never managed to get to Yeovilton myself, but my brother went last year and was gobsmacked. He thoroughly enjoyed himself, even though he isn’t too much of a fan of aviation. The Concorde there is G-BSST, the first UK prototype, and you can have a look round, under and inside the aircraft.
Besides Concorde there’s plenty plenty more to see-I’d suggest setting aside an entire day for your visit.
How about taking some pics for us?? 🙂

RE: Aircraft Museums
Not a museum as such, but the Heathrow Airport Visitor’s Centre is great and I used to take a trip up there quite frequently. It’s just outside the airport bu you can see right across the airport and see takeoffs, landings, taxiing aircraft and more. It’s free to get in to and there is everything. A scale model of Terminal 5 (T5), a large photograph display with photographs from key dates in history e.g. the day it opened, when Concorde first flew, the Queen visiting etc. There’s a reasonably priced cafeteria with seats looking onto the airport as well.
Last time I was there, there was a flight simulator arcade style game. It was £1 a go and you had to pass through several stages; Takeoff, Cruise and Landing.
Find out how customs works and see what sort of things people have tried to smuggle through and how they’ve tried to get it through without people noticing. Quite bizarre!
There’s lots to do and even a job centre specialising in airport jobs, so it’s quite handy and well worth a visit if you’re in the area.
I’m not too good with directions, but it’s a couple of blocks along from the “Renaissance” Hotel, just in front of the 24hr McDonalds!
🙂 Sorry to go on!
