OK all you experts answer this :
In The 80s the PAF recieved a large bunch of AIM 7s…however the F16A at that time did not have the ability to fire these. The subsequent 60 or so F 16Cs that the PAF was to get were supposed to have this ability, however the Pressler Amendement put paid to that.
To date there is no published photograph of PAF F 16s armed with the sparrows neither any confirmation in print or any other media.
My question(s) are :
1. Does anyone have confirmation that the PAF F 16s can fire the weapon….proof required.
2. If no one has proof but there is a theoretical chance that this has happened then :
a)Was the F 16s radar upgraded secretly…..which nations have the capability to do so? Are there special external radar pods that could be mated with the AIM 7
b)Is there a way to acquire third party BVR capability much in the way third party Laser Guidance is provided : meaning another aircraft illuminates while one only fires the weapon.
c)Would the Sparrows bought in the 80s still be war worthy…..does the fuel and the electronics have a shelf life??
Would be great if you guys can brainstorm on this.
