Typhoon in the close support role

I am not totally clued up on the Eurofighter-Typhoon. I know it is designed for the air to air role. However in this versatile world how would it fair in the air to ground role?

Opinions please.

One thing I have to get off my chest is the fact that the MOD plans to scrap the Mauser cannon from the Typhoon. Is this aircraft not designed to be an air superiority fighter. If in a desperate situation it had to engage in a dog fight what range would it be able to fire the sidewinder at?(minimum range) I don’t think it a missile shot would e safe at half a mile..do you?
