J-12

The first picture of the J-10 was revealed recently (see this month’s AFM). But the J-10 was supposed to be the lighter companion of another new Chinese project, the J-12. This was to be a relatively heavy fighter (F-15 class). I haven’t heard much more about this project, while the J-10 project seems to be going well.
Is work still progressing on the J-12 project or is this still a paper project? And how would this look like? Which roles was it to perform? How would its performance be?
