Mi-8/17 Hip

Wow! That is the first word that comes to my mind when I think of this successful Russian helicopter series. I recently read a very good article about the Hip in an issue of Combat Aircraft. I thouroughly enjoyed reading it, and it only helped me to further realize why I have chose this helo as my favorite Russian chopper. It is like the Huey of the East, only it is much larger. It can do just about anything. Besides being the most heavily armed helicopter in the world, the Hip can transport up to 40 troops or passengers or carry up to 15,400 lb. (7000 kg) of cargo. It can be armed with a huge array of weapons. As usual, I am wondering if someone can tell me all its weapon types and where they are carried. Here is what I know. I know that it can carry UB-16/32 and B-8 rocket pods as well as UPK-23 gun pods, GUV gun pods (really interesting gun pod if you have ever seen one), KMGU-2 weapons dispensers, external fuel tanks, anti-tank missiles, even air-to-air missiles. I am certain these are all the weapons it can carry, but I have several questions. First of all, most sources state the Hip can carry up to six UB-16 or UB-32 rocket pods and only up to four B-8 pods. Why is this? Secondly, what all types of anti-tank missiels can the Hip carry? I saw some missile on the cutaway view in the magazine. It was called Malyutka-2. They were four of them on the outboard pylon. They were in a launcher similar to the one used for Hellfire’s on AH-64’s and AH-1’s. Also, does anyone know how many U.S. gallons the external fuel tanks can hold. I know the Hip can carry four of them. I am not sure which stations though. (I am referring to the external fuel tanks, not the pods on either side of the fuselage.) Also, regarding the Igla anti-aircraft missiles, what is the latest version, and are they only carried on the outboard stations? What about bombs. Most sources say up to four 250 kg bombs, but only up to two 500 kg bombs. Why is this? This is a lot of questions I know, but anyone who can help with any or all of them will be a big help to me. Thanks.
