It appears that this aircraft is hated by many people on this forum. Seems like more people hate it than they do the Super Etendard or the F-4. I think it appears to be a very fine aircraft. I have checked several sources and the aircraft has better low-observable characteristics. It’s range stats are about %40 better than the C/D models. It has two extra weapon points for more stores. It is being developed into the F/A-18G Growler to replace the EA-6B, which is a great aircraft in itself. The Super Hornet also has the capability to carry a buddy tanker refueling pod to make up for the loss of that capabilty when the S-3 retires (I hope not soon, I like the Viking). The Super Hornet also has better maintenance, and overall is a better airplane than the F/A-18C/D. That is hard to beat, as the C/D (and earlier A/B models) were and are high quality airplanes despite the opinions of some of the less educated on this forum. I think you guys need to give this thing a chance. If you ask me, the F-16 Block 60 is a stupid idea. As many people have said the F-16 is getting out of its weight class. They are trying to make it something it is not. They are trying for it to be a long-range fighter/bomber like the F-4, F-15, and F-111. It is a medium range aircraft. Anyway, I think you guys should give the Super Hornet more of a chance before immediatly bashing something that you don’t know enough about. I am aware that a few people that have flown it didn’t like it, but that is no reason to cancel it. (Don’t bring that point up if you want to argue.) Boeing is doing an admirable job, so give them some credit, they are working hard on the project. I assure you, they know what they are doing.
