Does anyone know how the BAC Lightning was in overall capability, and is it considered to be a successful design? Remember seeing them when I was stationed in England in the early 1980’s, and thought that the engine arrangement looked most peculiar (one mounted over the other). The pilots wore patches that said “Last Of The Few”. Heard it was pretty fast but very maintenance intensive. Opinions?
