LAST EDITED ON 12-Jan-01 AT 11:28 AM (GMT)[p]Latest news from Sky on Friday:
“William Hague is backing Washington’s controversial `Son of Star Wars’ missile programme, despite a lukewarm reception in other Nato countries.
Britain’s agreement is vital for the project to go ahead, but Prime Minister Tony Blair has yet to commit himself either way.
President-elect George W Bush supports the plan, which would use a series of outposts in foreign countries to provide a missile ‘umbrella’ over the US and parts of Asia. Any missile fired from a rogue state towards the region would, in theory, be intercepted, though the technology is unproven.”
Let me ask how does everyone feel about the UK being part of this providing defense for CONUS but yet not benifitting from it?
For those of you who don’t know it involves the massive radar installation at Flyingdales being upgraded (again) and being used to track incoming ICBM’s.
The golf balls went a while ago – I wonder how long till the pyramid phased array goes?
I’m sure the US will proably pay for the upgrade and it won’t come out of the UK taxpayers pocket but I think it is going to kick up a stink with certain Europeans who are probably gonna lobby hard for us not to support it.
Well I don’t know whether its good or bad but IMHO the Conservatives won’t be getting in for at least another five years and Labour haven’t committed to anything…… yet.
Any thoughts?
