GBU-15 PWW

Here’s one for the munitions trivia buffs: Does anyone remember the GBU-15 Planar Wing Weapon (PWW)? The GBU-15 is currently one of USAF’s primary anti-surface guided bombs (2000 lb EO/IR). At one time, a variant was under development with a large, flip-out wing assembly on top of the weapon. It had a quite substantial gliding range, especially from high altitude. It was eventually cancelled and the current Cruciform Wing Weapon (CWW) continued by itself. Given the emphasis on long range, standoff attack, it would have made a useful addition to the arsenal. JSOW fills much the same role, but a Mk 84 warhead can ruin someone’s whole day.
