US – Israeli Exercice

I remember reading a while ago about an exercise which involved the USAF or USN and the Israel Air Force and which took place in Israel. I seem to recollect that the US pilots were assigned the role of a hostile force and that the IAF had to defend certain objectives. If memory serves me correctly, the US planes were rather comprehensively defeated. I can’t recall figures or kill ratios though.

So first, I wanted to know if anyone could tell me whether I remembered correctly and where I can find more info about this exercise?

Secondly, if the facts turn out to be correct, can anyone offer an explanation for the discrepancy? Was it due to limitations placed what the US planes were allowed to do for tactical purposes, or to the fact the Israeli pilots were more familiar with the environment, or to something else entirely?
