How effective would the proposed full upgrade Stage Two Typhoon be? The Stage Two upgrade includes:
– Upgraded EJ200s producing 78kN dry and 120kN on full reheat
– TVC control (EJ200 has already been tested with TVC nozzle which vectors in 3 dimensions, 23.5 degrees in every direction with slew rate of 110 degrees per second).
– Meteor and ASRAAM as the air-to-air missiles.
The stage two upgrade is being proposed for aircraft in 2008-2012, just before a planned MLU around 2016.
My thinking is that if weights stay stable (which they probably won’t), then a Typhoon putting out 240kN on reheat with those TVC nozzles is gonna be a mighty agile aircraft, considering the Typhoon right now is already a very agile aircraft.
