As mentioned in my Soviet X-Planes thread, here’s my review of Fomin’s book on the Su-27.
At first glance, the book is an excellent companion to Yefim Gordon’s Su-27 work. Upon further inspection, Fomin’s book is more than suitable on its own. If you have to choose between the two, get Fomin’s! Fomin’s book is full of full-color pictures and very thourough analytical work. All Su-27 variants, to include the newest Su-30MKK, Su-33KUB, and Su-30KI, are discussed in exhaustive detail.
There’s even interesting information on the Su-27M, reguarding the three production aircraft delivered to the Russian Air Force! I was suprised myself to learn of this, it’s mentioned nowhere in Gordon’s book.
Other interesting tidbits include details of the Soviet/Russian aircraft carrier program, interesting information concerning the genesis of the Su-27 and its armament, and details/photos of Vietnamese Su-27s, as well as the color scheme used by Ethiopian Su-27’s.
There are 3 color 3-views of the Su-27, Su-33, Su-37, and Su-30KI. All are accompanied by cutaway drawings. There is also gatefold color artwork of the 4 aircraft, although instead of the Su-33 the Su-33KUB is featured.
Bottom line: this book is well worth the money. Get it before they run out; I already had to wait for the second shipment before I got mine. Reguarding shipment, if you’re in the US, Midland’s air mail can get it here in 5-7 days (this is normal, Soviet X-Planes took the same amount of time!).
