What the British should do ?

With budgets on everyones mind. The British find themselves in the busines of Scrutinizing the expensive job of Defense. What they should do is this. First The Harrier ditch it. It makes more noise and drinks more gas than an alcoholic on Saturday night. It’s 40% accuracy rate in Kosovo make a Korean war vintage system. No upgrade can save this baby, the only one that could they passed on. All of the real modern Harriers serve in other Air Arms.
Next, the Tornado F.3, it is nice to look at. It is by sheer coincidence that the only foreign operators use it out of commonality. Italy is thinking of replacing it with the Mig-29. It’s manoeverability is only worsened by the Mig-23. I am sure the British jocks are tired of losing to everybody else. They should’ve went with the Eagle on that one. These two systems cost much more than they are worth.
What could do both cheaper, better, and simpler is the Gripen. Wer all know the British like it. They promote it everywhere. It’s hard to sell something that you yourself will not buy. Bae has 40% of SAAB Aero. the offsets would great, it could be assembled in the U.K. from kits. Like the Apache, for now. There would be no wait , it is already in production, and it is not American. What’s the problem ?
