New Italian Carrier (or LHD?) Trieste

anyone got information on this ship?
googling Trieste and carrier gives me either ww2 ships or cavour

is it a helicopter carrier? an lhd?
how far along is it?

did they decide on the design yet?

Amphibious ship with secondary Harrier/F-35B carrier role. It has a dock, a vehicle deck, troop accommodation & no ASW weapons or provision for them.

Stated dimensions are almost the same as Cavour, e.g. 1 metre longer.

Not , it’s financed but they have still to began construction.

thanks for confirming that.

that’s why i added the note about grains of salt.

wikipedia is useful, but frequently inaccurate.

It’s a part of a larger Naval Plane, centered on the construction of 14/16 PPA (multirole high sea patrol ships) i.e. 2 tier frigates.

Well, let’s say italian style 2 tier frigates, each packed with more fire power than all the LCS put together + a pair of fleet replenishment ships + SF superfast vessels and the said LHD.

It would be F-35B capable bur emphasis is much more on amphibious operation, given the recent grown of our San Marco marine infantry to a full (and more) brigate size.

it’s an LHD.

full load displacement: ~32,000 tons

LOA: 245 m (804 ft)

beam: 36 m (118 ft)

here’s the design:

according to wikipedia, it’s already under construction (grains of salt).
