I remember many years back reading one of the books about the sinking of the Belgrano and pondering a statement made the Conquerors captain Wreford Brown. Near the end of the book he states that after they came back the sub went straight out again on a top secret mission that was the most important of his career and more important for national security then the sinking of the Belgrano (sic).
Well now we know, it was a mission to steal a towed hydrophone array from a Polish trawler AGI in Russian waters. The mission was called operation barmaid and the third attempt by the submarine in getting the towed array.
Anyhow always wondered about it…now we know!
