Afternoon
I’ve come across this picture and I’m fairly certain is the Ark Royal or Eagle – can anyone confirm this and if so which is it?
Also can anyone hazard a guess at a date and the aircraft parked on the deck – there would appear to be at least three types. I think three of the four a/c nearest the camera with roundels are Avenger AS.5 , but I’m not entirley sure.
Any help would be very welcome
F

I’m not sure but there may indeed be Sea Hornets
[QUOTE]
Hi I think there are Sea Hornets at the back – The angle of the wings folded looks right
I agree with the rest
Thanks again

5 of these?

4-5 of these?
The light ones in the middle-back can’t be Firefly’s as these too would have backwards folding wings (like Avenger and Firebrand)

I’m not sure but there may indeed be Sea Hornets

Skyraider
F, the first type on the bow in front of the Avengers, I would say is a Douglas Skyraider AEW 1, the lighter coloured aircraft I would say possibly DH Sea Hornets. The date of the pictures at another guess, is possibly 1952, I could be wrong on the last two counts;).

My guess is Attackers (on the left), Firefly’s (in the rear) and either Skyraider AEW (placing the pic in the 1952-53 timeframe) or Avengers (placing the pic in 1954). I’m leaning towards the former.

The photo is Eagle. Ark never operated in the straight deck configuration.
The number of arrester wires on the flight deck was reduced from the number in the photo when she adopted the angle deck later in her career.
