You were on your honeymoon and you took pics of Military stuff?
You must have a VERY understanding bride.
Me too. For our honeymoon last year my wife and I went to the Channel Islands and spent most of the two weeks there looking at all the WW2 occupation museums/exhibits, many of which were at her request! :p

I have no idea. I think all subs look the same. Can anyone verify Z1pp0’s claim that the sub is from the Oyashio class?
LOL. I feel the same sometimes. Thats why I had the global security link before. You can compare the circles i placed in your picture and another one I found on the net.

I have no idea. It was passing by when we were touring the Mighty Mo. I thought it looked too small to be a US sub but I have no idea what type of sub it is or who it belongs too.
It looks like the JMSDF Submarine Oyashio class.

Thanks for the info, it was kind of interesting to see the Tripoli in a sad state of affairs with what looks like new SATCOM and telemetry antennas, perked my interest if ya know what I mean.
Sorry to bother ya, just one more question. Did you find out whose sub that was? It doesnt look like one of ours, unless we are borrowing it for training right now.

The floating radar station was towed down from the Alaskan coast for missile testing. I guess it costs over a billion dollars. They said we shouldn’t take pics of it so I took the most pics of it.
I was told the amphibous assault ship is the USS Tripoli (LPH-10) and is modified and used for testing missiles in the Pacific. I found this on wikipedia so I guess the guy was right.
She was decommissioned in 1995 and as of 2004, she was on loan to the Army, but remained laid up at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. In December 2006, the ship was towed to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where it now has a high-tech role as a launch platform with the nation’s developing ballistic missile defense program. Three times the ship was towed some 100 miles off shore and used to launch small ballistic missiles, which are then intercepted by Terminal High Altitude Area Defense Missiles, test-fired from the Pacific Missile Range Facility. The last test in the series was performed October 26, when the ship fired a “scud-like” missile, which was successfully intercepted. The ship will be towed back to the San Francisco Bay Area for the winter. Kaua’i lacks a suitable land-based launch site, and the costs of building one would far exceed the approximately $600,000 per year it costs to use the old warship, so the vessel will return to Pearl Harbor for a second series of tests in late spring 2008
