Who does Illustrious have embarked at the minute? The Navy have not finished their work up yet have they, so I assume it’s an RAF Sqn.

phew thats a force to be reckoned with… bring back the Buccaneers and Phantoms, before Iceland gets a better navy then us…
Thats not forgetting the RAF helicopters that have been deployed to cypurs some of which are enroute to the UK embassy in beruit with a QRF.

LORD I wish the RN would have leased some AV-8B plus’s from the USMC!

I hope that due to the delays on the new carriers they reverse their decision not to fit the GR7/9 with a radar, but I won’t hold my breath 🙁

It is, isn’t it. They haven’t even got 800 NAS in the Naval Air Squadrons list! http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/server/show/nav.2236
The gallery section is now very poor compared to what it once was too 🙁

I think 800 Squadron is now flying the GR7 operationally.
Is it just me or has the Royal Navy website gone downhill since the Sea Harrier was retired? The new layout is not as good as the old one.
UK Aircraft Carrier Task Group to Support Major Omani Naval Exercise 18th Apr 2006 http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/server/show/ConWebDoc.5330
The exercise sees the first deployment of the newly formed 800 Naval Air Squadron of the Joint Harrier Force, flying GR7 ground attack Harriers and the participation of Illustrious, is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the Strike Carrier concept in a controlled exercise environment.

The ships website suggests Harrier GR7A’s from articles posted. No doubt the number of these will change as required in the next week.
