Croatian stealth(y) patrol boats for Libya

Here’s the new patrol boat that will eventually serve in croatian coast guard as well. The first two are being delivered to Libya. It’s an entirely new design, and offers around 70% smaller radar image then its true size. The ship autonomy is over 1000 nm, can do 26 knots at sea state 5. Max speed is 33 knots. The ship can also serve in civilian and military roles.
Soon a corvette design will be developed similar to german MEKO 100 class that will be used for offshore patrols.

Given the sideview, I ‘d rather think they are mounted Skjold NSM style. Mounted below decks but with a raising box launcher that comes up when they are about to fire a missile.

Interesting, if followed through with.

What is the timeframe for these ships?

Unicorn

Roadmap says first around 2009, but I think a few things might change if and when(current plan says 2008) our extended economical zone(EEZ) gets “operational”.
There’s also a deal for our shipyards to take part in the construction of the bow section on the french FREMM ships, if we sign for 4 gowinds.

yeas the minisubs were made in croatian soil but to the Yugoslavian peoples navy so it still misleading to show pic of all five of them under Croatian “flag” when we all know that there is only two of them operational… 😉

It commendable that croatian industry is going forward and trying to secure sales for a wider variety of ships other than cargo/tanker ships that comprises the bulk of the orders right now. Especially so if we’re talking about privately funded designes (even if they are made as a response to a government issued call for a new ship needed).

That being said, actual plan for the distribution of budget for croatian armed forces, especially procurement of new ships for the navy, is wasteful. Given the recent events in Montenegro and the disappearance of Serbia as any kind of a naval player with zero chance that Montenegro itself would continue any kind of armed navy legacy – need for a well armed navy has diminished.

One can’t possibly afford to build a navy (or any other armed force) to counter all the possible enemies. So, wisely, one chooses to build the force needed for the likely enemy. Unless one is suggesting that Italy will do an invasion, offshore ships are simply an overkill. Actually, if Italy does choose to invade for whatever reason, the strength difference is just so big that no amount of ships croatia could possibly afford would make much difference.

Which leads us to realistic enemies. That was yugoslavia’s navy, on paper. Now even officially that naval threat has passed. On the other hand, Serbia will now have more money to go around for other branches, like the air force. So i would think it’s wiser not to waste money into corvettes, not even into new fast attack crafts, but concentrate on coast guard duties as far as navy goes. Actual defense of the seas can then be performed solely by truck based launchers from the shore and aircraft launched missiles. More money for air force / AD systems is far better management of funds at this point.

hahaha italy invades haha. That could never happen cause their navy would be destroyed, not just of ships but also our islands we have 1200 of them at our cost. And lots of them have bases rockets and missiles. Which ships are no match for those.

Maybe you should leave the shipbuilding for others 😀 ?

I found World Commercial Shipbuilding Orderbook of 2001 from US government site. in this report, Croatia is 7th ranked but the Gross tons tells everything…

Argo I am terribly sorry for my ignorance.
I checked too and Croatia DOES have a large shipbuilding industry which I totaly unaware of.

I don’t know if it reached the 4th position in the world or not but that is irrelevant since it became clear to me that it has one of the largest shipbuilding industries anyway.

Please forgive my somewhat sarcastic tone in my previous post. I stand corrected and a little ashamed 😮

I noticed the Göteborg class corvettes being mentioned in some Yugoslavian forum, but my serbocroatian skills prevented me of knowing more…So they are planning to buy them or is it just a proposal from sweden?

It’s proposal from Sweden to Croatia as Argo wrote

And there is also a new swedish proposal which includes 2 Geteborg class corvettes included in the gripen deal.
