Some unfinished business

For me, the salt of beeing a military enthustiast has always been proposed projects that may have ventured into ‘artist’ impression state but never materialised…There are almoust as much of them as there is existing types of weapons and therefore I like to find out if anyone of can dig up some desings still unknow to me…
there migth have been similar thread for aircrafts, but lets make some for ships&subs…

So in order to narrow the thread, lets collect only those who have already burried projects from the past, not something that migth still have change to materialize.

here for start…I’ll dig up more….

According to the Lurssen site, the Turkish boats are still registered as being the 57m class and not the 65m class despite the modifications. So basically we are both right but just from different angles 😉

As for the Taiwanese boats, I remember at one stage the US asked ASC to build the collins class for the RoCN and they would pay for it, our government refused because we apparently have a “One China” pollicy which only seems to suit some things such as subs and armoured vechiules but not others such as Uranium sales! Slightly odd don’t you think?

Turkey has several variants of Lürssen designed or derived FACs in its inventory, although they are all based on FPB 57, yes. Three were built in Bremen, the rest in Turkey. The dimensions of the Kilic appears to mirror the Victory corvettes in Singapore more closely than the earlier Dogan and Yildiz FAC though.

Anyway, along the way the ships grew and grew to about 3x the displacement of the above and lost the Polyphem and VTOL drones and is limited to 4 RBS.15. Enough of this…

Talking of designs… Electric Boat and designs for Taiwan? France, Italy, Netherlands, Germany have all declined to provide them.

Turkeys Lursen FPB 57-052 desing boats are actually more of 62m so perhaps it explains it why they are included…

Ummm Turkey doesn’t have the Lurssen boats in it’s service, the three countries that have the Lurssen 65m class are, Singapore in Missile/Gun boat form, UAE and Bahrain in multipurpose roles with the Bahraini vessels having a hanger for a dauphin helo which lands on the platform and is then lowered down for stowage.

A while back 7seas posted a link to 3D rendered images of the K130 (and other vessels) provided by Thales. Gives a good impression of current K130 layout. The earlier designs looked like enlarged Lürssen MGB 62 (variants in service with Singapore, UAE, and Turkey > see Kilic on the website mentioned)

Here you are. The scan aint too good, ’cause the book is very small and thick, and is therefore hard to scan from.

yeah, Like instance in the 1999/2001 edition of Weyers book there is rather clumsy and topweigth looking little corvette, but in the latest 2005/2007 edition shows much likyer concept…damn that i got no scanner…

That Swedish corvette looks interesting, and seems to share some design elements that were carried over into later designs like Stockholm and Göteborg.

I have been frantically looking for an outline published around 1997 or so for the corvettes that have now become the K130 class in Germany. I recall seeing a somewhat different design, smaller, much faster (45kts), armed with Harpoon, and drawing heavily on a long line of B+V and Lürssen FAC designs.

Good thread mate, I know I have heaps but here’s a start:

Australia’s defunct OPV which were going to produce with Malaysia. It still might have a come back especially if Beazley gets in.

I am still looking for the proposed DDG replacement that had two 5″ guns up front on either side of the deck, if anyone else has it could they please post it!

Now that look like a good design, any more info Ja?

As talking about Australia, how about some early 60’s general purpose escort or 66’s vintage of Ligth destroyer. I have a pic of the later in a book, but I havent got scanner 🙁 😡 Anyway, it looks like British Type-42 whit tartar in aft and the 127mm mk 42 in front
Also, the canadian Tribal DDG before it switched to ASW desing would be nice to see…I try to dig some….
