Anyone ever heard of this tanker? Can anyone tell me if it’s still in service or has been reetired or resold or what it’s fate is? We had a run in with it in heavy seas while I was in the Coast Guard….I’ll tell you more about it in a bit if anyone comes up with any info on it…
Thanks in advance…

She’s not that big, a very standard VLCC, when you meet them, they always look the same, you can say “she’s 330m long” and won’t be further than 10m off… All same length, same beam, same draft, with some exceptions of course. The funniest being the King Alexander, which is 80m broad!!!
I guess when you’re next to one in a CG Cutter, they are indeed big, certainly when they’re in ballast, which was the case I suppose?

Back in 82-83, when I was in the coast guard, we rescued the crew of the Sailing vessel ‘Windermere’ from some pretty heavy seas and took their vessel under tow….we could’nt keep their crew on board our ship for the rest of the patrol so we handed them off to the ‘British Resolution’ on her way to the east coast of the US….some PRETTY HAIRY stuff trying to get them up a boatswain’s ladder in heavy seas , a couple of our guys got dunked by the roll of the tanker and we coulda lost them (take into account this was done at night in about 30 foot seas!), but we did safely transfer them all to the tanker and we turned over the boat to an inland tug 2 days later or so….nothing too thrilling, but I never got a REAL good look at the ‘Resolution’ , as it was only at night….but she looked to be a MONSTER of a tanker…as indeed she was! Now it appears neither her or my old ship survived….

The site Knocka mentioned is right. I know the author of it and the information on most of the site comes from Lloyd’s Register itself. They know pretty well what happens to ships. They always give disks to the ships classed by them with all the information on other ships under their classification. Nice info.
So Corsair, what happened when you met this one?
