Seconded, we sailed past the Ark in various forms of dismantlement on the ferry over from Northern Ireland to Scotland. As a tech-mad teenager it was heart-rending to see such a ship get cut down to nothing.

I`ve got a lot of photos of the Ark and the Squadrons. I can still remember leaving her on my last day, looking back and seeing her there looking really grand.
I have very good memories of my time aboard her and my oppos.

Try & get a copy of ” Britain’s Greatest Warship HMS ARK ROYAL IV” by Richard Johnstone- Bryden ISBN o-7509-2504-3 there a a few good pics of the “ARK” with her deck edge guns etc
also Neil McCart’s “HMS EAGLE 1942-1978” ISBN O 9519538-8-5 has plenty of history & pics of the ARK’s 1/2 sister.

This may be a bit late to post, but that is not the Ark Royal being passed by Hermes.
The ship in the foreground is H.M.S. Eagle and the ship in the background is H.M.S. Ark Royal R09.
They are both in Plymouth (Ark is leaving Plymouth) I served on the Ark in the 70`s with 892 Squadron (Phantom F4K) and as part of her crew.
The Eagle was scrapped in 1978 and the Ark was scrapped in 1980.
