China 'Developing Military Spacecraft'

I have not seen this one posted here yet, so here goes:

China is making progress in building an “upper-atmosphere” jet fighter, an official said last week, adding to a flurry of speculation about China’s growing air power.

Hong Kong’s Ming Pao daily on Tuesday said Shaanxi TV last Saturday quoted acting provincial governor Zhao Zhengyong as saying China has “succeeded in the test flight of a prototype aircraft that can fly through the atmospheric layer.” Zhao was visiting a state-run aircraft corporation at Xi’an high-tech industrial development zone.

The channel showed images of a prototype space fighter being assembled whose outward appearance was almost identical to a U.S. pilotless upper-atmosphere military spaceship, the X-37B, the daily said.

Interesting development — seems China is moving forward much faster than what most in the West anticipated.

Probably looks similar to this:

An Internet-source photo released in December 2007 revealed that the H-6A โ€˜40672โ€™ of the PLAAF 36th Air Division was involved in the test of a rocket-powered small unmanned space plane known as โ€œShenLongโ€ (Divine Dragon). The project may be a part of the preliminary study for a future reusable unmanned or manned space shuttle or trans-atmospheric vehicle.

This is really interesting, I think I remember Rockwell having some pretty sweet looking military space fighter type craft planned out many decades ago. Does anyone have any good sources on this type of thing?

(I’m thinking and hoping perhaps Mercurius may be able to help out here)

After a quick search I found the Rockwell TAV, and whilst I realise Rockwell was American I wonder if the Chinese system will be similar to the TAV.
