“DALLAS — Lockheed Martin’s enhanced version of the combat-proven PAC-3 Missile, the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE), successfully intercepted a threat representative tactical ballistic missile target yesterday at White Sands Missile Range, N.M.
The PAC-3 MSE Missile provides increased performance, greater altitude and range than the baseline PAC-3 Cost Reduction Initiative (CRI) Missile. As the first spiral development of the PAC-3 CRI Missile, the PAC-3 MSE Missile variant incorporates threat-driven and technology-enabled hardware and software upgrades to defeat the advancing threat set. The PAC-3 Missile is the only Patriot missile that utilizes hit-to-kill technology to destroy incoming targets.

THAAD, PAC-2, PAC-3 normal, PAC-3 new fat, SM normal, SM future fat, ESSM, RAM normal, RAM fat, possible SLAMRAAM range extender motor — all using different motor diameters. Maybe economizing down to, say, three for the sake of interoperability of launch systems?
Or maybe, just maybe there’s a method to the madnss? If you look at the development of the various missiles I’m sure you can figure it out. As for interoperability of the launch systems, I’m sure you’ve heard of the Mk41 VLS? And if you keep interoperability in mind that will give you a clue as to the reason behind PAC-3 MSEs motor.

Mhm.
Wonder if the U.S. could get some order into their sprouting variety of SAM rocket motor diameters …

I saw one article that mentioned a 100% range increase over the earlier variant.
I don’t know, the stuff I saw was from LM. I’d like to see a video of the intercept but I haven’t been able to find anything on the shot other than the official “Lockheed conducted. . .we’re so proud of our team. . .” boilerplate.

It’s suppose to have 50% more range, better manueverability, a better kill mechanism, and a dual-pulse motor.

Any figures to PAC-3 MSE missile performance ?
Lockheed is certainly aggressively promoting PAC-3 to India not sure of MSE is part of that deal.
