Russian Aircraft Modified to Carry NATO / Western Equipment?

(sorry if there’s a thread for this already)

I was making a little search on Iraqi Exocet integration on MiG’s and this question came to my mind.

How about making a compilation on examples in which Russian made combat aircraft are modified to carry non-Russian equipment (EW, targeting and navigation pods, missiles, guided and dumb bombs, rockets etc)?

– MiG-21 upgrades – especially Elbit Lancer (Python III/IV, Lizard, Rafael LDP, Mk82, Magic II)
– Czech MiG-23ML with Magic II
– Slovak MiG-29 with Magic II

MiG-21 Lancer does not have Python IV integrated, only III; in addition to what you mentioned they also have Opher IR guided bomb and Elta EL/L-8222 EW pod

Afaik the Czech and Slovak Magic II were attached to the respective aircraft just for show, no real integration occured.

The Indians integrated a number of Western weapons on their MiG-23BN/27M such as 25lb practice bombs dispenser, BAP-100 anti runway bombs, 1000lb bombs

Yes, I was sure that probably it was a Orao (more logical isn´t it?) but like I had read it, I only translate that text to here… but, like you said, Serbia DON´T havae IR Mavericks… you are OK.

AFAIK Egyptian MiG-21MF:
1979 – fitted with AIM-9P (AIM-9J1?)
1981 – Combined Soviet/Western IFF, ALE-40 decoys, RWR. However, planned upgrade with APQ-159 radar cancelled.
1984 – AIM-9P3. Some fitted with ALQ-234 jammer pod
1989 – AIM-9L
2008 – Possibly fitted with HMS

Didn’t Egyptian MiG-21s get Martin Baker ejection seats as well?

Yes, I knew the Orao with AGM-65.

But if you can read the International Air Power Review Volumen 8, page 84, it´s said: “…. MiG-21 made sweeps over the Croat capital of Zabreb and, on 7 October, a very precise attack was launched on the Presidential Palace with infra-red guided AGM-65 Maverick misiles, belived to hav been fired from a MiG-29. Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, was oly a few feet away from the impact area but surived….”

No, it was an Orao, I can still remember the news coverage of the event since then. Incidently, what’s an ‘infra-red guided AGM-65’, you mean a Maverick with thermal imaging seeker? The Yugoslavs certainly didn’t have those in 1991!

Weren’t there claims India integrated the R-73 on the Mirage 2000?

What about Russia using the Damocles on the Su-34, etc:

Nope, that was the J-22 Orao, not MiG-29.
