Combined Sea Dart / Ikara launcher

Has anyone seen any suggestions at any time for a combined trainable arm launcher for Sea Dart and Ikara?

Yes, Ikara’s shape has always made me discount the idea of a combined launcher but the idea has popped up here.

Now if Ikara had been more ASROC in design…..

Would you mind keeping us updated on this? I have never heard anything along these lines before but I am very intrigued. 2 things come up though.

1) Under-deck space, the launchers themselves would probably be able to take Ikara but I can not see the magazines being compatable and it would probably be a nightmare to have two very different magazines feeding one launcher.

2) If it was going to be used it would probably have been on Bristol and it wasnt.

I have never seen a dual purpose rail launcher for the RN, I imagine that the underdeck magazine space required for Ikara would make such an enterprise very difficult. I have seen mention of proposed box launchers for Sea Dart that would potentially be able to hold both missiles. However, remember that Ikara was an akward shape, nothing like ASROC.

Ps. The below thread does not answer or assist your question but if you are looking at this sort of area you may find it interesting…….
