Apparently the Rafael Spike was the British armies first choice as a Milan replacement but its choice was politically sensitive in the UK so the Javelin was chosen instead.

Apparently certain MPs didn’t like the fact that the missile had been used to kill various terrorists and accidently various innocent people who happened to be near by.
“”Since the armored threat was eradicated, Javelin has seen extensive use against alternate targets such as buildings, bunkers and light armored vehicles,” added Howard Weaver, Javelin JV vice president. “We have received strong user testimonials on how important Javelin was in the recapture of Fallujah from insurgents.”

Yep, politicians do not like things that actually work 🙂
The SPIKE family of missiles is built in Europe as well as the Eurospike by a jointventure between Rafael (20%), Diehl (40%) and Rheinmetall (40%) called EuroSpike GmbH.
Finland, the Netherlands and Poland all acquired variants of the missile.

I was surprised about the Litening 3 pod as well but it will be licenced built.
So its ok to buy a missile which can be used to do exactly the same thing- thats pathetic.

I realy can not see why it would be politically sensitive? Afterall the Typhoon is getting an Israeli Litening 3 pod.
