Hello
Just a question : F-111 and F-117 have a bomb bay. I know they carry
AGM-65 Maverick, but can this missile be carried internally?
(I plan to load a Vulcan with mavericks in its bomb bay and use it for operation Granby, GB Gulf War I).
Thanks in advance

No AGM-65 on or in F-117.
When used on (not in) F-111 don’t forget AXQ-14 videolink pod.

I don’t think a 1:72 Maverick model is detailed enough to tell different versions apart – just paint it appropriately and it’ll pass for any version you desire, I’d say 😉
Maybe a 1:72 Pave Spike pod (as used by the Buccaneers) would be easier to find?
BTW, another reason for a trapeze would be that the AGM-65 is rail-launched.

Thanks for you precisions and logic, Trident.
I posted on another forum and they also suggested the trapeze option for launch. On this case, it’s just for a model, so I just needed to know if the maverick could be be carried internally. (hrad to say if these plastic missiles are from the laser or optical version! )
Concerning the LGB, the TIALD pod is a good idea, but I have to found one in 1.72 scale…:)

I’m not sure if the F-117 can carry the Maverick, lots of sources suggest it can but AFAIK it only ever used laser-guided bombs in practise. One thing is for sure though, there are no external hardpoints on the F-117 so if it does carry the missile it will be done internally.
The fundamental problem with internal carriage of the AGM-65 would be that the EO guided versions do not have LOAL capability (correct me if I’m wrong), i.e. they need have their seeker locked onto the target prior to launch. This will only work if the missile can be lowered out of the bay on a trapeze, like the Sidewinders on the F-22. The laser-guided version might work (afterall the GBUs on the F-117 do), but that would make your Vulcan dependent on other aircraft for lasing the target (unless you want to put a TIALD pod on one of the Shrike pylons from 1982?).
