Hi,
Just wondering if you guys have some ideas or tactics to counter ARMs (from land-based air defence system’s perspective), such as HARM, KH-31P and the lastest AARGM, without use of additional equipment such as decoys. I find it kinda challenging. Any ideas to share?

Most current Russian SAMs are designed to engage ARMs. (ie Tor, and SA-17 Grizzly and Pantsir (Which can fire on the move), as well as the later model SA-13s.
Note CIWS gun mounts like Phalanx have problems tracking very low flying targets and suffer from clutter. They have no capability against low flying supersonic weapons and can only engage diving supersonic targets.

OverG, yes there are some land-based CIWS. China has truck mounted Type730 (Goalkeeper look-alike).
Also, the Russian Tunguska is some kind of land-based Kashtan.

How about mounting the radar on a telescopic boom with rapid retraction capability and using natural features such as hills, cliffs and ravines for shielding?

CIWS are good against those stufs RRRRRRAAAATATATATATATATATA, π π π π theres any ground based CIWS sistem????
Maybe an good tactic could fix the position of the radar antenna making an prudent angle with the trayectorie of the missile -no face to face- ,with the ionosphere reflexing the radar could give an fake position of the antenna, but there radars that cannot operate without the tipical 360ΒΊ round, maybe that tactic could be succefull, maybe….

Yes, the US Navy shoots everything, even the Kh-31. They shoot those from F-4s π

put your radar off and run?
I know US Navy doesn’t do this, they have the shoot-everything policy. Even Kh-31…
