The annoyingly inevitable happened and halfway through London’s carnival last night error 99 came up. After missing most of the parade I took the lense off cleaned the connections the camera worked again, but this plastic thing is covering the sensor, It moves back and forward easily so gets in way of the sensor, not 100% certain what is meant to do either.
I am looking at getting a 650D but have 2 questions in my mind at the moment,
1) What do people thing the black piece of plastic is there for? I assume was to protect sensor
2) Would it be possible to repair the camera?
Any help will be gladly accepted.

when my camera gave me lens cap error i sent it off the the manufacturer. they did a free estimate and it cost 60$ to fix. not to bad. beats paying 400 for a new one. took 2 weeks for the whole deal.

Its over 3 years old and has really been well used, I have had a quote of around £150 to have repaired and will do so around Christmas time.
In the meantime I have a new toy a 650D.
Three years is not really old for a camera.
Congrats on the new toy. I’ve got myself a new setup as well: 7D, 100-400L and 24-105L: courtesy of having a decent insurance and an indecent thief.

Looks like a broken shutter to me. I hope it’s still in warranty.
