I’ve just got back from the airport & the initial results look good.I used the focus on closest object,& it did the trick.I’ll post some shots later 😉

I use mine on shutter priority most of the time – 1/320 or below for prop blur – higher for jets. Focus AF-C for action shots (AF-S for static or you can just leave it on AF-A and it will pick the mode required). AF-Area mode on either closest subject if appropriate or single (low light with long lenses it seems to do less hunting if I leave it on the centre area).

I usually shoot in raw these days (I use the raw plug-in for photoshop as Nikon and Adobe seem to be working together at last – but before that I used the free Rawshooter essentials – they have just been taken over by Adobe but you can still download it here ) but if not I use the best quality jpeg (Fine L).

As for lenses most of the Nikon autofocus will work – to check I would go to :- www.nikonians.org there is an excellent section for D50 owners.

I hope you find this of some use – you may find you prefer other settings but these just give me the results I like – the program modes can also give good results and are good to use initially as you get a feel for the camera as is the jpeg mode but raw does give slightly better quality and flexibility. If you do end up using raw and use WindowsXP it is worth downloading the Microsoft Raw Image Viewer from their site as it now supports the D50.

For converting your raw files download the free copy of Nikon Capture Nx.

Capture NX is free trial ware for only 30 days!, thereafter you must buy your own copy. Nikon View (actual version 6.2.7), although with much more limited RAW conversion capabilities, is completely free and can be downloaded from the Nikon Support site.
