A good lens for Nikon F65

Can anyone reccommend a nice lens for the Nikon F65 camera?

I’m fed up with having photos of a speck in the sky with wings!

For ground-to-air shots you can get very good results with a lens with a maximum range of 300 mm. It just needs some careful planning of the pictures you’re after and the ground positions to get them from. In the past I’ve even managed to get quite reasonable photo’s with lenses as short as 135mm.

I would recommend to look at a Sigma HSM f4/100-300mm. Fast, sharp, easy to handhold and not too expensive. This lens could also be used with a 1.4 converter to make it a f5.6/140-420mm.

Hi Tailspin,

It depends how much you want to spend!

Before all these amazing zoom lens came on the market I used to use a Sigma 400 APO Telephoto, it had a maximum aperture of 5.6 but gave good results for a reasonable price.

If your on a tight budget you could try a Sigma 50 – 500, I believe Tamron now have a similar product on the market although I haven’t actually tried one. There are other brands such as Cosina and Vivitar that do a range of budget zooms, but these can be slow to focus and obviouslly are not that good in poor light.

You always buy a Nikon 80 – 400 VR at around a £1000, but I have heard it is rather slow to focus.

Have you considered buying second hand. You might be surprised by what you could save. The other option is to trade your Nikon F65 for a Canon body as the lens choice is much wider and cheaper than whats compatiable with Nikon.

Septic.
