Fundación Infante de Orleans Flying Day, Madrid 07-04-2019

A small airshow that takes place every first Sunday during most months of the year at Cuatro Vientos Airport, Madrid about 19 miles from the main international airport Madrid Barajas.

Cuatro Vientos airfield is a business airport though on the aother side odf rhe airfield is the Spanish Air Force Museum and a small Spanish Air Force section with mostly stored aircraft.

The flying day takes place in juat one small area of the airfield. When you arrive at the enclosure, you can mingle amongst the static aircraft for over an hour. There is also a guided tour of the static which attracts most of the spectators. This gives one the opportunity to photograph aircraft elshwere in the enclosure without having to wait too long to get a clear shot.

After the hour or so , the people are evacuated from the static enclosure so that the aircraft can start up and all taxi out to the runway, The aeroplanes then take off one by one. As soon as all the airacft have left the enclosure, the spectators are let back in again this time to view the flying display.

The maximun capacity of the enclosure is just 1400 people.

The flying display itself only last an hour but with almost everything in the air or about to take off at the same time, the moment one aircraft finishes its display, the next one commences within less than a minute. The result is a lot of displays in one hour.

After the aircraft have landed, they are put back in to the hangars.

The airfield opens up at 11am but then by 2pm it is all over.

In the background of a few of the pictures can be seen a few of the mountains in the Sistema Central part of the Sierra de guadarrama. It is not unusual for there to be snow in those mountains.
