The main reason I went to Cosford was to see this aircraft outside.

Well you have a clear opinion on it and you may well be right but it seems to me to be a rather more complex problem, as I suggested, than you believe. But we’ll never know for sure.

Superb second set of pictures – thank you. Back to your earlier point I like the idea. In theory it makes all the sense in the world but in practice? DAS have been onsite for years and predate the IWM – I believe. They also contribute heftily to IWM funds. Bearing in mind the logistics to do what you suggest and that the majority who would undertake it are volunteers I cannot see it ever becoming a reality, although I’d like to be proved wrong.
Apologies for extensive thread drift here…….:)
My take on it is the shows are a sell out so why bother, if Cosford can do it then so can Duxford, they emptied the American hangar in no time, it just needs someone with a bit of will power that’s all, some times I wonder if the people that are running these sited
are in to aircraft or just businessman.

Very nice, thanks for sharing. The TSR 2 still looks modern. A line up of a squadron of those would make an impressive sight. It’s only when you get close to it that you apreciated just how big it is.

Very nice photo’s. A joy to view them all. Alas the photo’s of the TSR2 do evoke a feeling of sadness. “what if”………..
Can you imagine a flight line of those at Coningsby all in 70s wrap round camouflage.

🙂 Yes I agree, but I don’t know how practical it would be given the relatively limited space on show days.
Well seeing as it’s an IWM why have we got old airliners on site, what I was thinking is bring a few out every say 4 years, and have a theme, bomber then fighters. 🙂

Terrific pictures of the TSR2 – it is somehow more impressive away from surrounding aircraft, as it is at Duxford.
I think that Duxford are missing a great opportunity with some of their aircraft by not bringing some outside on air show days, thanks for the comments Charlie. 🙂
