Evening all!!
I have finally finished uploading my photos from the fantastic show held at Malmen in Sweden in June last year.
This show saw displays by a whole range of classic Saab and Swedish types including J-29 Tunnan, J-32 Lansen, J-35 Draken and AJ-37 Viggen.
It was also a rare chance to see Spitfire XVI ‘RW386’ which is a rare Spit for a UK enthusiast.
Below are links to the two sets on Flickr:-
Static display (40 photos)

Flightlines and Flying (172 photos)

This was part of a 3 day visit to Sweden which also picked up the Museums at Gothenburg, Ugglarp, Angelholm and the fantastic Flyvapenmuseum at Malmen. There is a separate thread on the historic forum with links to photos of these.
I would thoroughly recommend a visit to a Swedish show, if you get the chance!
Cheers

The main lens I used was a Sigma 150-500, which I only bought a week before this show. Although heavy, I soon got used to using it and have found it essential for airshows and avaition in general since then. It’s particularly good at Duxford.
Cheers

Thank you! Exactly the answer I wished for. I have to replace the Canon 100-400 I owned before and the Sigma is a candidate.
Think I will give it a shot 😉
Some pictures from that same, windy and pretty cold day:

Hi Alan,
Thanks for showing off your great pictures, I especially liked the grey Agusta A109 pictures.
Cheers,

Hi,
many thanks for all your comments.
To answer a couple of points,
The main lens I used was a Sigma 150-500, which I only bought a week before this show. Although heavy, I soon got used to using it and have found it essential for airshows and avaition in general since then. It’s particularly good at Duxford.
This show was a celebration of Saab’s 75th Anniversary, but the previous Malmen show also included the Swedish AF Heritage flights fleet, and they are always flown with enthusiasm.
Having the show at Malmen also gives the bonus of the fantastic Flyvapenmuseum, if you have an extra day to spare.
We flew with Ryanair from Stansted to Gothenburg City (home of the Aeroseum) which is a few hours drive away from Malmen but you can easily add the museums at Ugglarp and Angelholm in.
Thoroughly recommended, and I shall be going again in two years time if they do it again!
Cheers
Alan
Brilliant, thanks for sharing Alan, really love the Viggen taking off shot!!!! 😉
An air show opportunity not to be missed, and yes that is a heavy lens for an airshow! A friend of mine has that in use along with a converter, but my Sigma 80-400mm is enough for my weedy arms!

Alan,
This is a fabulous collection of photos and especially the historic types. I don’t think I ever got to see RW386 while she was over here (UK) and she looks in great condition. It is lovely to see the B17 and enjoyed her (two?) trips to FL’s.
The last couple of shots of the Pembroke were a pleasure to see how this aircraft is put to good use in civilian hands. Lastly there was the enticing sight of a Skyraider which looked one of the more unusual ‘marks’ or modifications. Hopefully she will be rebuilt, even as static it would be interesting to see her complete and in original markings.
Was this a one off trip to the airshow? it feels like (based on the quality of display items) one that you would recommend if there are more planned.
Thanks for sharing.

Excellent shots, thanks for sharing the links Alan. 🙂
Very impressive Saab Jet Formation. I will add the show to my ‘to do’ list.
