Shuttleworth Pageant with Albatros and RE 8

I did wonder if I was mad to set out for Old Warden as thw weather in Sussex was awful – low cloud and drizzle and the forecast for Old Warden was for a grey day but the thought that this might be my only chance to see the Albatros and RE 8 made me go.
The weather was fine for flying, a bit dull for the photos but the sun did shine a bit on the new pair. The only thing missing was the Lancaster which couldn’t get up from Bournemouth because of poor weather.
Their display was a bit subdued – not altogether surprising but we were delighted to them

With some of the ‘low and slow brigade’

Robbo – it was worth going even without the pictures
WJ244 – I am in complete agreement

Storch – sorry about the background – just uniform grey cloud

The display was perhaps a bit subdued but as they belong to the RAF Museum the pilots were probably reluctant to push them hard particularly as they wouldn’t be that familiar with the airfield. It was certainly worth the trip for what could well turn out to be a once in a lifetime display.
