A few pics from yesterdays increasingly popular annual event – a large crowd gathered to see a line up of old cars and slightly older aircraft, dance to a jazz band and munch on the barbeque. Here’s a few winged items – Spartan Executive; Curtiss Robin; Percival Vega Gull; Tipsy Belfair; Waco YKS-7.
More later.

Fantastic stuff. I love the vintage machines as they all seem to have so much character which the modern plastic tadpoles lack.

Thanks 91Regal for the pic of ‘FSC. Yes the Tipsy is a delight to fly, and surprisingly efficient for only 62 hp.
Having an aircraft that only burns 3 gallons of fuel an hour is a bit of a bonus these days!

might a certain well known aero. display pilot be paying a visit
I’m not sure, I’ll ask when he gets back from his hols..
If you are at Old Warden on Sept 4th you may see a unique formation….

Just for you, low’n’slow. I must say that these machines are a brilliantly simple yet effective design, with their built-in wing slats and one-piece elevators.

Merit awarded indeed, and perhaps a mention at Assembly?

Dunno about that ! :D:D

Lovely pics 91Regal. It was the first time I have managed to get G-AISA across to Panshanger, to pose alongside G-AFSC. It was the first Tipsy I flew in, way back in 1974!!
A big thankyou due to Sue Hart and her colleagues at North London Aeroplane Club. They have created a great event there. Long may it prosper.

BobMm – thanks for the correction, I blame the mistake on senior memory allied with senior eyesight, a lethal combination. I will certainly try to be at Little Gransden on the 28th., it’s one of my favourite venues. I just need to memorise the route and put my glasses on.
Regarding the WACOs, there were numerous people with cameras at the Revival Day, I’m surprised nobody else has posted any pics – there must have been a few forumites there.
Panshanger is holding an aerobatics day on Saturday 3rd.September – might a certain well known aero. display pilot be paying a visit , other commitments permitting?

The word is Covington as in http://www.covingtonaircraft.com they did the overhaul before 633 came to the UK.
Glad you like the collection, the two WACO’s flew past at 500ft (ish). (anyone got a photo?)
Come to Little Gransden on the 28th and we should fly both Spartans and maybe a WACO or two.. There arent any free slots in the display for the WACOs at the moment… but who knows on the day.;)
In the mean time, the view from the hanger this afternoon..

Thanks Anna – I often feel that a ‘lovely stuff’ from you is equivalent to a blue star at school – if I collect six ‘lovely stuffs’ will I receive a gold star ?
(do they still have blue & gold stars in schools, or am I really showing my age ?)

‘Reflections in a Silver Spinner’ or ‘Self Portrait in Chrome’ – apart from the fact that this is a vanity shot, I was intrigued that the label to the left of the spinner on the Spartan bore the name ‘Coddington’. Any connection with the Hot Rod guy ?

A few more – Piper J-4E Cub Coupe G-BSDJ; Tipsy Trainer G-AISA, one of two examples present; Tipsy Trainer cockpit; Fokker EIII – the GPS in the cockpit rather gives the game away that this is a replica; Porterfield CP-50, a real rarity and one I’d not heard of before; information plate alongside Tipsy Belfair, photo of which in #1.

Thanks Oz – there was indeed another Waco there, a UPS-7 model. Later that evening both models took off in loose formation as well, making a lovely sight and sound
By: ozplane - 15th August 2011 at 16:52
Was there another WACO there as I saw two come over here in loose formation mid-afternoon? Nice photos by the way.

Nice! Wish I’d known it was on!
