Abingdon 2011 from the other side of the fence

Having spent the preceeding week watching the weather forecast like a hawk I ignored common sense and flew into the airshow.
I lent my passenger my pocket camera and told him to keep snapping.
Here’s a few of the not so brilliant results.

Finals to land following a Cessna.

The crowd line thirty minutes after the Vulcan had left.

I allowed myself to drift off to the left – must try harder.

Apparently some of you had a bit of a wait to leave.

One has to learn to embrace turbulence. Instead of going “Urghhh” at each bump try saying “YeeHaar” 😀

I’m not a fan of turbulance. I did some flying from Goodwood in the 80’s in stonking hot weather. I must say the 152 I was learning on did manage some rather interesting aerobatics without any input from me. Used to scare me witless 🙂

My strip is Clench Common which is on the top of the Malborough downs and surrounded by trees so plenty of triggers for turbulence.
I was the first aircraft away from the strip on Sunday so I didn’t realise until I got back that I was in fact the only movement at Clench that day, which means I’m either a good pilot or stupid. Personally I think the later applies.;)

I can imagine the wind being a bit difficult – I noted a lot of side slipping on approach to Abingdon. I was at Popham last Monday and again the wind was making things interesting for the visiting pilots at 20 – 25 knots.

I was in the EV97 Eurostar G-CFRT.
The wind on the day made my landing back at my club airfield more than a little difficult, so much so, that it was a relief to get it down in one piece.

Interesting take on the day – what were you flying ?? I was there in the crowd way after the Vulcan flew by.
