The Catalina has been quite a popular subject on the forums this weekend, thanks to the publicised crew training at Duxford. Thought I’d throw in a few photos of my own, as I was down there this afternoon. I ventured over to the field on the south side, a much-used spot by many at airshows, for some different angles. Unfortunately, she didn’t venture into a practice display. Typically, the sun encountered some light cloud just as I arrived at the bottom of the field. Couldn’t have waited half an hour, could it?! Not overly happy with these, but still – they present a different view of the action.
All taken with the 400 prime, for those interested.

Very nice shots Elliott. I was fortunate enough to be aboard for the Saturday flights (yours were taken on Sunday judging by the take off direction) and you missed a number of practice displays as various pilots had their authorisation renewed. Glad you like the colour scheme Stangman – it was originally my idea and was chosen not only because it looks pretty good but because the original 44-33915 was based in the UK (Halesworth) and its loss is commemorated on the glass panels at the entrance to the AAF Museum our Duxford base.

I disagree, the only view i find ungainley for want of a better word is the head on shot. Very odd profile, other than that beautiful, but as we all know beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

They are beautiful unless you see them from directly abovve or below, the they just look fat.
