Rather than going to Legends yet again, I fancied something a bit different and spent the weekend of 11/12th July at Breighton Airfield in Yorkshire for the Real Aero Co ‘Summer Bash’. It was the Real Aero’s 20th Anniversary and the Jungmann’s 75th Anniversary Fly-in. Dozens of light aircraft flew in across the weekend, including a Jungmann and Jungmeister from Switzerland. Great weather, a very warm and friendly atmosphere and a very enjoyable weekend all round.
On Sunday, Maurice Hammond brought his collection of two P-51’s, PT-17 and T-6 into the airfield for the day. This gave my ‘Follow Me’ jeep its first proper use; leading the P-51’s to their dispersal! The photos below show the arrival, taxi in, photo shoot and departure.
Many thanks to Maurice for allowing us the photo opportunity with the Jeep.

Cheers.
As for tweaking the pics – Colour saturation was reduced a bit, focus softened slightly, noise added, and the red Gamma channel increased a bit as Kodak films of the time were usually red sensetive and often overexposed, leaving pictures with much more reds and browns than you would normally get. Each pic often needs a slightly different tweak so I always do them one by one rather than batch adjusting.

Them’s seriously good pics mate. Love the way you’ve converted some of them to the US colour shots of the period, how was that done?

But annual membership is cheaper than some airshow ticket prices – and if you take close friends and family with you it’s cheaper still as they can be admitted free as guests. Works for me!
Then it’s worth looking into as breighton is only 1hr drive tops and has made for a v good weekend in the past.

Just looking through my pics again, I realised I did have some of the T-6.

Breighton airshows are good just a shame you have to be a member to enter the field it puts many off from joining because your tied.

Auster and Ryan. That’s all for now, until I dig out the Texan and Stearman pics from Debach, taken I think in 2006. I’ll probably start a new thread for those.

Always liked the Chipmunk too, ever since building an Airfix one hundreds of years ago!
