The HAC Come Out to Play – Duxford 13 Nov 08

The Historic Aircraft Collection at Duxford had a bit of a photo call this morning. Not often you get to see a ‘Scramble’ consisting of a Yak-52 (camera ship), Hawker Nimrod, Chipmunk and Spitfire. On returning, Howard Cook in the Nimrod put on a bit of a display followed by Charlie Brown in the Spitfire. Apart from the cold it was not the ideal conditions, with wall to wall cloud and eventually rain, to take photos in but a nice little mini airshow all the same.

Cheers Darren

With the way the weather was, I fully expected it to have been canceled by the time I arrived.

I was trying out my new….ish (second hand off flea bay) Sony 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G SSM lens and I was quite impressed with the quality and sharpness of the images I was getting even under the bad lighting conditions. I should imagine that with a bit of sunshine it will be a cracking lens.

The photo shoot would have been organised a long time ago to get pilots, ground crew, photographer and camera ship all in the same place at the same time. The weather could not be organised and hence the naff conditions.

Brian

That is true Brian, but it is sometimes better (and always possible) to re arrange if the weather is not good. I have to say that your shots are really good as always, especially under the conditions.

Great pictures. I don’t understand why they do a photo shoot with such a grey sky.

Great pictures. I don’t understand why they do a photo shoot with such a grey sky. But it’s good to see that not all aircraft are unflyable due to annual maintenance.

The photographer involved alledgedly has very low standards:eek:. The shoot I believe was for Pilot magazine – you may well have seen his attemps at the Vulcan air to air earlier this year! – quite shocking IMHO

Your second photo of the Hawker Nimrod with the Spitfire in the foreground is a lovely shot. I like the sky too.

I also enjoyed browsing through your website. Thanks for posting.
