Damp Day at Duxford – 05 Nov 08

Low cloud, drizzle at times, not the ideal conditions for a visit to Duxford but my last, LAST, chance of snapping SM969. The Mk XVIII Spitfire was already in its container and many thanks to Fred and Team Spitfire for the access to photograph the re-build over the last 3 years.

At the weekend the HAC Hurricane was moved into the spray bay and their Spitfire is lodging with the Old Flying Machine Company aircraft at the moment. There was maintenance of the hanger doors by the Phantom last week so probably something to do with that.

Nice pics there thanks for posting, Just wondering where is the spitfire going is it going the states? And did you see the BBMF Spitfire at all?

James

The Mk XVIII is going to Jim Beasley in Pennsylvania and the BBMF Spitfire is with ARCo in ‘Area 51’ so no access .

Great stuff, mate 🙂

I well remember, some years ago now, building an RC model of BM597, and needing my granddad to help with something on it, I took it up the road, totally forgetting that they had a group of Polish teachers/drivers staying with them at the time!

I don’t think I saw that model Spit for about half an hour – they must have photographed it every way they could think of!
