Day 2 – 15th August 2008
Dear Diary
Not quite an early a start this morning but did have to catch the 08.00 bus into Doncaster to catch the train down to Newark North Gate for my little bimble to the Newark Air Museum. Could have got a taxi from the station but as the sun was shining, again, I decided to make the most of it. Took about 45 minutes to cover the 2 and a bit miles, longer time coming back as I called in to McDonalds for some sustenance as all that walking had worked up an appetite. Footpath all the way to the showground although crossing the 3 lanes of the A17 at the roundabout just to the north of the A1 did get the adrenalin flowing a bit.
A good 15 years since my last visit to the Newark Air Museum and was quite impressed with what I saw. Nothing much appeared to have changed in the old hanger, from what I remembered, but the new hanger is light and airy and hardly any floor space was wasted. Not an ideal situation for us who like photographing aeroplanes but nice to see lots of airframes protected and under cover.
The ‘Live View’ on the Alpha 350 and tilting LCD monitor came in very handy for the high/low shots.
