Sat Farnborough

My second ever Farnborough and even though the flying was good, there was gaps in the display and don’t get me started on the car parks. Some noticeable absentees IE the BBMF (wind, so I cant blame them) and the 111sq Tribute (which then turned up and displayed while I was in the car park:mad:, but all of that paled into nothing when I heard that howl and, for the first time in 15 years, she took to the sky in front of me.

3 Pics for now from the best displays of the day.

This thing is unlivable I thought the Typhoon was agile:eek:

I could not believe how quite this was and it has one hell of a jet blast

Stuck trying to get out I heard the sound of a couple of Hunters and saw the group taking-off in formation. Shame they could not display and shame the video camera was in the bag. Anyone have any shots?

I have spoken to Hunter Flying based at Exeter who supplied the Hunters for the 111 Tribute.

They infact arrived on Thursday evening ready to validate but the were not able to validate until Friday evening and when they tried the BBMF caused a delay in their validation time by which time the weather had turned nasty and they were unable to undertake a validation flight. The earliest they were allowed to retry for safety reasons was 5:30pm (after the show had closed) on Saturday which is obviously when you heard them start up.

As they were there all weekend and were not allowed to part take until they had been validated, they did ask about having the Hunters on display but due to logistical reasons this wasn’t possible either and they were parked on West One behind the trees on the other side of the airport. Which is funnily enough were the original 22 hunters were parked all those years ago.

However, I must say that they did a lovely validation display on the Saturday and the solo display on Sunday was excellent as well. I understand they also left just as the show closed on Sunday as 4 ship too ! Hopefully, we will see lots more of them at some more airshows – a solo display is lovely but a twin or three ship is even better. 🙂
