I took a chance today on the Support Our Paras event at Old Sarum despite the dodgy weather forecasts!
Driving up from Winchester I encountered both light and heavy rain, so I wasn’t that optimistic.
Fortunately, the cloud and light began to lift as I edged closer to the airfield. The rain held off all day, and sunshine finally broke through just as the display was coming to an end typically!
I arrived just before midday, no traffic hold-ups of any kind which must be a first for me.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t as kind around the UK and the event lost some participants as a result – the Aerostars from Weald, and the Dragon Rapide, Anson and DC-3 were trapped up country.
A few fots of what did turn up and displayed are included below!
I hope they are of interest, comments welcome…

AAC Lynx and Gazza arrived in dark and gloomy conditions….

The first display movement was the Cessna cab of the Army Air Corps Red Devils parachute team, Foxy lady…
…which later dropped its cargo, who all landed with their usual excellence.

The WWI team were helped by the weather, it eliminated the German threat before they had a chance to take off. Never mind, these two put on an excellent display.
Robs Lamplough and his gorgeous Mk.VIII Spitfire…
…met up with Lee Proudfoot and MH434 🙂

Justin Gorman and Guy Westlake were up to their usual high standards with the Extra and glider…
Peter Borchert displayed his Pitts twice, to several gasps and “wows” from the young audience.
Keith Dennison and this beauty beat the weather and arguably made the display of the day. A truly excellent routine!

Despite the weather, the event was quite enjoyable, with the display line close to the crowd.
The guys on the PA system also deserve a special mention for keeping everyone informed of what was happening throughout the day, and at the right times!
