Jim,
Only you could have got the Apollo! 🙂
Having just Googled it, yes it is beautiful, but not as beautiful as the Viscount.
…and it had square windows :-0

ANSWER TIME!
Farnborough 7 Sept 1957. ETPS Area.(I used to look forward to visiting this part of Farnborough as much as the actual show!)
Armstrong Whitworth Apollo VX224/15 2nd prototype. This had still been a complete airframe the year before. If only it had been preserved! The ETPS were the last owners of it.
The Apollo was built to the same specs as the Viscount but the Viscount prevailed over it. It (the Apollo, that is) was a beautiful aircraft. Only two were built.
Venom FB1 WE471/L This had belonged to the Central Gunnery School before being transferred to the RAE Farnborough.
Viking 1A 4th Prototype. VW218 Used in structural tests after finishing its aerial development work. It looks like it had endured one structural test too many!!
Thank you all for the interest. I’ll put my next picture in the Historic Section.

If the kiddie car is not a Spider crab…is it a Mistral ??
By: Lindy's Lad - 14th March 2008 at 13:23
If its not a Vampire, then it can only be an early Venom. I’m still sceptical about the base of the fins – more vapmish ….
The airliner fuse looks similar to the HP Hermes now at DX…
By: Arabella-Cox - 14th March 2008 at 13:09
Nope – it’s not a Vampire!

could the aircraft in the middle be a D/H Vampire T.11 Trainer? minus the Engine housing at the rear of the fuselage

Farnborough is correct Bazv!

Viking is correct!
You’re probably right about putting it into the Historic section – I’ll do that with the next one althought this picture was taken at an airshow.
Answers tomorrow!

Actually having had another look at the background a/c.. is it an early Comet used for flight testing,it has got big ‘ears’ (pressure heads ??) above the flight deck.
So could it be Hatfield ??
Or with that mixture of a/c Farnborough ?

Is that a roundel on the ‘Pig’ ? if so I might go for it being a Valletta.
The only small twin boomer I know of was originally called ‘Spider Crab’ ??
In the background…havent got a scooby doo.
Fascinating photo , it will be very interesting to see the answer.

With that tail the Vampire must be a Mk1, or a Sea Vampire…
Viking and Comet for the other two?
As to where and when… no idea.

Varsity, Vampire, VC10.
Vickers….and DH for the Vampire.
Looks like the scrapheap at the back of the Weybridge plant, near the Sports clubhouse?
