It has taken a long time, but my trip report of an aviation visit in September 2006 to Moscow & the Gelendzhik Hydroaviation show is finally up and running.
In Moscow we went to the Moscow Aviation Institute, Monino, Chernoye, Bykovo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports as well as Khodynka and the Central Armed Forces museums.
We then flew down to Krasnodar on the Black Sea coast ā where we did a ramp tour before taking a coach to Gelendzhik for the Floatplane show.
We also did a ramp tour at Anapa airport ā plus visits to monuments at Novorossisk and Krymsk.
The report is photo-intense (180 photos) ā but there should be something for everyone.
The report is on my website at :- http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/flankers_pages/moscow_2006.html
Other trip reports are at :- http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/visits_pages/newvisits.html
Iād appreciate any feedback on spelling mistakes, missing links etc
Enjoy

Fantastic documentation of your tour. I’m so jealous I will never be able to afford that š
Since I am going to be in Europe later this year (already bought my tickets to RIAT in July), I am considering going to the MAKS airshow… All the tours I have seen look a little to expensive. Do you think it is the sort of thing I could do on my own?
Your advice would be appreciated.
Cheers
You could, but unless you speak Russian, I wouldn’t personally.
Others have done it alone, but from what they have said, it involved a lot of hassle.
First you have to get a visa – by being ‘invited’ or ‘sponsored’ by someone in Moscow.
Then you would have to arrange hotel accomodation, transport to Zhukovsky etc.
I’m not saying it isn’t do-able, just that by the time you have paid for the flight, visa, sponsorship, hotel, transport, MAKS tickets etc, the ‘package’ isn’t too much more expensive.
There are other tour operators, but I like George Pick :- http://www.gpaerotours.com/program_2007.html
I will be going with him again this year – to MAKS 07 and other bases.
Check out their MAKS tour – and contact George for a price – he can usually arrange for just a weekend-only price – with you arranging your flights and him doing everything else.
Mention my name………………

PS – maybe see you at RIAT ????
