I don’t have many photographs from the early 80’s of the Finningley Battle of Britain Displays as I was working 12 hour shifts in the Junior Ranks Mess feeding everybody and the world. The only chance I had to go around was in the evening, the night before, and I had to be quick before the sun went down. One advantage though was that aircraft were still arriving and you could get up close and personal to them, like the Nimrod here.
All images scanned from rather old negatives.

Sorry for delay…..I’m waiting for a decent scanner then I can post some old pix (I’ve got boxes of em….maybe youre in there somewhere)
Cool, looking forward to seeing them, whether I’m there or not.

Hi,
I was posted to Finningley in 1973 or maybe it was ’74. I’m sure it was ’73 though. Did you get any photos in either year?
I was guarding a Lightning.
Rather shamefully, the evening before, I accidentally spilled plastic polish on the wing of the ME 262 (polishing the canopy). I wanted to clean it up, and said so, but there wasn’t enough time and the NCO IC wanted his tea!
The nightmare haunts me to this day. 🙁

Great pics there, i was there that year too, in my ATC uniform with a girl from the Girls Venture Corps in uniform on my arm, wonder what ever happened to her, what ever her name was :diablo: . I got to sit in the Iroquis, that was the one that became G-HUEY iirc. wasn’t it damaged just after the show whilst being transported by road?. if i remember right that was indeed the Varsity that crashed taking the life of Mike Twite and the crew. What ever happened to the Mike Twite Trophy? i havn’t heard about it for some time.

Sorry Rob, didn’t get to Finningley until 1980, and many thanks to every one else for your comments.
