Here are some photos from Gidroaviasalon 2006 in September, on the sunny Russian shores of the Black Sea.
A pair of Kamov Ka-27 “Helix-A” helicopters opened the show:

The giant Beriev A-42 “Albatross” seaplane at the bottom of the photo, and a Beriev B-200 at the top:

The A-42 taking off:

The Be-200 doing a water drop:

There was a heck of a lot of stuff missing, including a Tu-142 “Bear”, Mi-6 “Hook”, Ka-32, Ka-52, Il-38, but the Russian air force jet teams “Russian Knights” and “Swifts” did displays, with some maneuvers you won’t see elsewhere, and plenty of flares.

Ken,
Yes, that must have been me – don’t think there were too many other Kiwis there!
Love your shots of the Be-12 in 2002, I was disappointed that it wasn’t there in 2006. Your shots inside the cockpit were great, too, looks like they provided better access back then.
I can’t see myself getting out there again anytime in the foreseeable future, I have plenty of Be-200/A-42 shots now and unless they pull a few rabbits out of hats then I can’t justify the trip from Los Angeles.

Nice pics Richard – you are the Kiwi I met at the show – with shorts and a wide brimmed hat ??
I was with one of the English tour groups – the one that was turfed out of our chalets (the Gloria Apartments – 200yds from the show entrance) for Putin’s guards (we ate at the chalet’s restaurant – and there were loads of ‘guards’ in the next room – so it was true – although, AFAIK, Putin was a ‘no show’).
We also made lots of new Russian friends at the ‘Gloria Apartments’ – and in the wine bar ‘down town’ – although we had to be bussed to our hotel 1km away.
I’m glad you enjoyed the show – the promised Tu-142, Il-38 etc appear every year on Gelendzhik’s website (taken from an old itinery and repeated each year) – I have seen pics from previous years showing an Mi-26, Mi-14 etc – so some of them have appeared. http://www.gidroaviasalon.com/
Also, when I last went in 2002, the small airport was open (we flew into it in an An-24 from Moscow) – and there was a small display of fixed wing a/c up there….

The 2002 show was much busier than 2006 – probably in part due to the closed airport – but when the new international one is opened, you will be able to fly in directly – so don’t give up on it!!
Nice to have met you..
See you there in 2008 ?????
Ken
PS – I must get my Gelendzhik photos up onto my website……

Those Berievs sure look good. Wish we could see them this side of the torn curtain. Just think how great the services from Southampton Water would be.
